2021 – 12h Estoril: ERC Endurance Ducati to start from seventh on the grid
Mathieu Gines, Louis Rossi and Etienne Masson will start the 12 hours of Portugal in Estoril from seventh on the grid.
Estoril, Portugal. ERC Endurance Ducati has fought up to seventh on the grid for the 2021 edition of the 12 hours of Portugal at Estoril, close to the capital of Lisbon. Mathieu Gines, Louis Rossi and Etienne Masson in the end had a average best lap time of 1:39.789 minutes, missing out on further world championship points only by a tenth of a second in P5.
First qualifying on Thursday had made for a good base in tenth position, but it was ever to be expected to be faster in Friday’s second session, as it started 9 o’clock local time with much “cooler” temperatures – if one could say so with still then over 30 degrees Celsius.
However strategy played off and all three riders went over a second faster in Q2 than in the previous day. Rolling in on a used tyre the strategy was the same for all three to pick up a new one for a final assault during half time of the session. Gines bettered to 1:40.048, Rossi did a 1:39.652 and Masson a 1:39.669.
The race will start at 09:00 local time (BST) and finishes at 21:00 tomorrow, Sunday, 17th of July 2021.
“We did a good strategy in Qualifying and it is a little pitty we missed out further points so short. But our main target is on the race so we have a good base for tomorrow – especially with our Ducati Panigale V4R bike.”
“We are having a good feeling on our Panigale bike and with our Michelin tyres and we are well prepared for tomorrow’s race. All days here we have worked on our race pace and it is promising. I hope we can get a good result tomorrow as we all three riders are similar strong.”
“Looking at our lap times makes us confident: we are all three very close together and competitive. I think we can have a strong race on our Ducati Panigale V4R tomorrow. Of course it will be tough with this heat, but we are well prepared.”
