2021 24h Motos: THE OFFICIAL DUCATI COMES TO THE END OF THE 24 HEURES MOTOS
Despite the difficult conditions, the ERC Ducati Endurance team finished the 2021 24 Heures Motos in 8th place. This is the first time that a Ducati has finished such an event with points !
After a very promising qualifying session, the ERC Ducati Endurance team started from 8th position on the grid of the 24 Hours of Motorcycling on Saturday afternoon. Mathieu Ginès made a cautious start aboard the Ducati Panigale V4R, but a spectacular crash of three competitors on the very first lap cost him precious places.
The Ducati rider nevertheless remained very concentrated and managed to move up to 8th place at the end of his stint. Louis Rossi followed and also set a good pace, but several incidents slowed his progress. Mathieu Gines, Louis Rossi and Etienne Masson were relegated to the middle of the standings, but they redoubled their efforts and engaged the Michelin-equipped Ducati #6 in a brave comeback. This trio of riders proved to be much faster than the competitors in front of them, so that at the halfway point, the ERC Ducati Endurance Team had closed the gap. It was back in eighth place in the provisional standings before another mechanical problem occurred in the middle of the night and led to a drop in the standings.
Once again, the three riders will not spare their efforts to come back into the battle. The end of the race allowed the Ducati to reveal its true level of performance as the riders put in some very fast stints and set times that matched those of the leaders.
At the end of a race made very difficult by the heat where no less than 12 riders retired, the official Ducati Panigale V4R fulfilled its contract by coming to the end of these 24 Heures Motos. It crossed the finish line in 9th position. But following the declassification of the Bolliger Team Switzerland, ERC Ducati Endurance team is finally 8th and collects 29 points in the general classification.
Still adapting to the specificities of endurance racing, the Ducati Panigale V4R has gathered a lot of information for the rest of the championship. It will be stronger for the second round of the season, which will take place on July 17th with the Estoril 12 Hours race (Portugal).
